CASA in Action, the region’s premier immigrant-rights electoral group, has endorsed Will Jawando in his campaign for Montgomery County Council At-Large ahead of the June 26 Democratic primary.

“Will Jawando knows the issues that immigrant and working families face every day. He has the policy experience and the record working on our behalf. And as the son of a Nigerian immigrant who grew up right here in Montgomery County, he shares our personal story. That’s critical. We are proud to stand with Will, because he has always stood with us,” said Gustavo Torres, President of CASA in Action.

27 MarMontgomery County State’s Attorney McCarthy Endorses Jawando


John McCarthy, Montgomery County’s top prosecutor, today announced his endorsement of Will Jawando and his campaign for an at-large seat on the Montgomery County Council.

“I’m supporting Will Jawando in his race for Montgomery County Council At-Large. I’m endorsing Will for a very simple reason. His values, policy experience and his character demonstrate without a doubt, that he will be a fighter for everyone who lives in Montgomery County,” McCarthy said. “We want the same thing. We want justice, opportunity and fairness, for everyone. I’m looking forward to working with Will, when he is on the County Council, to stamp out discrimination and hate crimes, and safeguard those who need our support and protection.”

McCarthy has served as the Montgomery County State’s Attorney since 2006. He was Deputy State’s Attorney for a decade prior. Deeply active in community service, McCarthy has led every major trial division in the county during his time in office.

08 MarMCEA to put JAWANDO on Apple Ballot for June Primary


Today the Montgomery County Education Association announced its slate of recommended candidates in the June 26 primary, including on that slate Will Jawando in his campaign for County Council At-Large.

The MCEA is one of the county’s largest public employee unions, representing more than 14,000 teachers, classroom specialists and counselors.

“I have to thank our public school teachers for their support and trust in me. It means a great deal and I am truly thankful. I’ve worked my entire career, from my work locally building career readiness programs and working to close opportunity gaps, to my work at the Department of Education and the Obama White House, to ensure all our children have access to a world class education.  I’m honored that MCEA is putting me on the Apple Ballot,” Jawando said.
