ROCKVILLE, Md. — UFCW Local 1994 MCGEO, a union representing 7,000 county government workers endorsed Democrat Will Jawando in his race for Montgomery County Council At-Large.

Gino Renne, president of UFCW Local 1994 MCGEO, pledged that the union would campaign for Jawando, and other union-endorsed candidates, prior to the June 26 Democratic primary.

“Our union, our rank and file, our membership, has decided to enthusiastically support the candidacy of Will Jawando,“ Renne said. “Our members are the very people that keep Montgomery County strong. And after a rigorous vetting process, we are publicly committing to put all the resources we can muster into assuring that our endorsed candidates are elected.”

In remarks before more than three dozen union members in a ceremony Wednesday, Jawando thanked the union for supporting his candidacy — and outlined how his agenda around the Montgomery County Promise would help working families.

“Special interests, people with a lot of money, they’ve had good representation for a long time. It’s time we get incomes back rising and the middle class growing. That’s a challenge in Montgomery County, but I think we have a unique opportunity right now with this election.”
